Faces of CCE
Michelle O'Camb
Michelle O'Camb joined CCE in early January as an administrative assistant. She is a chemist whose academic journey has been complemented by her industry experience. Her passion for knowledge and teaching blossomed from her early days as an ESL tutor at San Bernardino Valley College. There, she supported students academically and contributed to the development of a robust support system for both students and faculty.
After her tenure in the industrial sector, Michelle transitioned back to education, applying her practical skills as a lab technician. She looks to combine her extensive background in chemistry with her experience in education and administration to excel as an administrative assistant, facilitating educational excellence and fostering an environment where students and educators alike can thrive.
Yanghao Zhong
Yanghao is a postdoc in the Chong Lab. He grew up in Chengdu, China. He obtained his B.S. in Biosciences from University of Science and Technology of China and Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from University of California San Diego. During his graduate study, Yanghao investigated the spatiotemporal regulations and functions of the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) using genetically encoded fluorescent biosensors under Professor Jin Zhang’s guidance.
Yanghao recently joined Professor Shasha Chong’s lab in the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Division at Caltech. In the Chong lab, Yanghao is interested in developing methods to understand the molecular determinants of intrinsically disordered proteins and their roles in human diseases.
Jiamin Guo
Jiamin Guo is a postdoc in the Chong Lab. She grew up in Jiangsu, China, and obtained her B.S. in Pharmaceutical Science and her Master's in Stem Cell Biology from China Pharmaceutical University, followed by her Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from the City of Hope Cancer Center.
During her Ph.D. in Dr. Steven Rosen’s lab, Jiamin's research focused on developing novel therapeutic approaches for blood cancer therapy. She has recently joined the Chong Lab with a strong interest in understanding the role of liquid–liquid phase separation in oncogenesis.
Philipp Kukura
Philip Kukura is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Oxford and is visiting CCE as a Moore Scholar until June 2024. He works broadly in biophysical chemistry, and is currently focussing on mass photometry. Philip is very curious to find out about all the amazing science happening at Caltech across all disciplines.
