Barbara J. Burger Fellowship

The Barbara J. Burger (PhD ’87) Graduate Fellowship focuses on doctoral students in chemistry who aim to build careers outside academia. The gift also endows the Barbara J. Burger Prize which furnishes research-related support for graduate students in chemistry at Caltech. The gift also provides discretionary funds to the student group Women in Chemistry (WiC).

This year’s awardee was Kaitlin Luedecke (Hadt Group). Kaitlin’s research focused on elucidating the role of transition metal electronic structure in catalysis and spin relaxation.

Spring Into STEM

An annual outreach event, hosted by WiC, Spring Into STEM connects Girl Scouts from Daisies to Cadettes with various STEM disciplines.

The event was held on May 3, 2025 on the Beckman Mall. Young scouts learned how exciting science and technologies are with fun hands-on activities and demonstrations. Young scouts were also treated to a laboratory tour of Schlinger where they learned about synthetic chemistry.

Activities, demonstrations and lab tours were done by students from CCE, BBE and EAS.
